The Book of Sameze aka The Sam Moss Dictionary (A work in progress)

  • "Any questions?" and "Quite lovely"= Said after a particularly good performance.
  • "Rang" and "stang"= Two different ways of accenting a guitar chord.
  • 'I am an equal opportunity offender'
  • A Hat= Any expert on nothing with an opinion on everything. ("If I have to listen to one more Hat this afternoon, I'm closing the store and going home.")
  • A Suit= A business person
  • Acoustic windows = manual crank windows on a car
  • Beef= Anything eaten or drained of particular intensity. ("That glass seems a bit dry; let me pour you some beef.")
  • Bending Wire = playing guitar (properly)
  • Big Doin's
  • Blues Approved= usually bestowed on but not limited to a person, musical instrument or venue. But really just about anything could be blues approved but never without proving oneself through some act or rite of passage
  • Bottom of the Hill=BP
  • Car=Your Body
  • Chicken=MJ
  • Consider the Source
  • Dags= His term of endearment for his friends in the musical community. The word will also be instantly familiar to anyone who works with sheep.
  • Dime, to dime, dimed= All variations of amp on ten, all dials on 10. as in, 'the amp was dimed'.
  • Dishing= Chatting.
  • Duck = Doug Williams
  • Felix= the G&L ASAT. Gtr #1 for The Sams and LTPE
  • Get on one=To have a few drinks.
  • Getting the Vapors= having an emotional response to a particular thing like a piece of music or performance
  • Gimmie a squawk=call me
  • Good Wood = good guitar
  • Gritar=Guitar
  • Hit the Note=Played Great
  • Honkin' Sticks = ? guitar?
  • Horrifying
  • It's just a corner, Sid; knock it out. = tilting moonshine jar to side so it only touches one corner of bottom; means it's a swallow.
  • Jun-your/the J R= lead paul junior
  • Keef = Bonnie
  • Kennedy's head= Anything to do with the assassination surrounding President John F. Kennedy - the conspiracy theories surrounding that event were one of Moss' great obsessions.

  • Les Truck=Lesbian Truck Payment Experience
  • Martha'd or Martha Mitchelled= A long, often late-night phone conversation, the Martha in question referring to the late Martha Mitchell, who was, um, loquacious. If Sam was doing the calling, it was good. If somebody was yakking his ear off....
  • Mississippi Saxophone=the harmonica
  • Moss Pit=Sam's House
  • On the same Jimmy Page= To ensure that all parties are in agreement.
  • On the Same Jimmy Page=Do We Agree or Are We In the Same Place?
  • PK = preachers kid
  • Plumbing=Whether male or female
  • Po-ta-to Jucie=Vodka
  • Pop= A beer or a drink.
  • Redonkulous=utterly ridiculous
  • Shovel = guitar or bass let me get a different shovel
  • Stick guitar - acoustic

  • Sufficient Artillery = means to do whatever job correctly, with appropriate show of force; guitars, amps, strings, rocket launchers, hot sauce, etc
  • Tato= Vodka.
  • Ted Urgent=Ted Nugent
  • Thank the Universe=What Sam Did Every Day
  • The Cans=Headphones
  • The Dragon - Les Paul with dragon decal owned by George Orthy
